Bunbury Mill

Bunbury Mill is a watermill dating back to the 1840s, a watermill is known to have stood on the site for about 700 years. Records show that a mill has existed at Bunbury since 1290. The present building dates from around 1850 and worked commercially until 1960, when a massive flood forced its closure.

Following years of disuse and decay the mill was fully restored by United Utilities in 1977 during one of the company's first programme of joint working with local authorities and voluntary groups. Until 2009, the company financed comprehensive repair and renewal programmes in order to maintain the mill in working order. However in 2010 the mill was closed as a cost-saving measure. A local group hopes to be able take over the mill and re-open it.
