Robin Hoods Tump

Robin Hood's TumpRobin Hood's Tump near Alpraham is a is a round barrow dating from the Bronze Age. The monument stands by the A51 near Tilstone Fearnall.

The barrow is a burial mound which stands around 7 - 9 feet high, were mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow would have been re-used for several later burials.

Excavations carried out at Robin Hood's Tump revealed it to be constructed of sand and turf. No burials were discovered but a number of worked flints were found. At the top of the mound stands a sign, denoting it as a scheduled ancient monument.
