Castleton visitor centre, located on the main car park in the village of Castleton, probably the best-known village in the Peak District, is the main centre for exploring the Hope Valley.

The centre is a ‘must see’ for visitors to the Peak District National Park and houses the Castleton Village Museum which houses many interesting exhibits , some dating back to prehistoric times, it tells the story of Castleton through a wide range of displays illustrating the natural, social and industrial history of the area. The centre also operates as a Tourist Information Centre offering accommodation bookings and local information.

Visitors are inspired to discover the delights of Castleton and the Hope Valley through interactive and interpretative displays which include a hang-glider’s-eye view of Mam Tor, alternatively visitors can try rock climbing or experience the thrill of pot-holing. The centre has received a silver award in the East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence 2008 awards for the quality of its tourism information services.

The centre holds regular exhibitions houseing different displays within its exhibition room, which shows off the talents of local artists, photographers and crafts people.

Refreshments and Gift Shop which houses a range of products, from basic maps and guide books, through to unique locally made gifts.
